Casablanca (1942)

<><><><>

Casablanca is a classic move filled with numerous memorable lines. “I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship,” “Here’s looking at you, kid,” “I’m shocked! Shocked to find that gambling is going on in here,” and many more. Some of the most iconic lines in cinema are concentrated in a few short minutes of the film. Everyone should watch Casablanca at least once.

Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman have wonderful on-screen chemistry. There is heavy use of eye drops to make their eyes glisten on camera. The movie focuses on Rock’s Café Casablanca but adds a few more sets to fill out the movie. The production seems full and lavish even by today’s standards.

This movie is a rom-com from another era. It isn’t as genre-defining as Roman Holiday, but it has more memorable lines. This is a must-watch for background in cinema and even pop culture. At eighty-two minutes it is an approachable watch for most people.
