This mocumentary stands up well to repeated viewings. Take my word for it and go watch this movie now. You can usually find it streaming somewhere for free; July 2019 on Hoopla. A film crew follows the day to day lives of a group of vampires sharing a flat in Wellington, New Zealand. Much like the mundane interactions of The Office, these vampire lives are nothing special, yet the movie is incredibly funny.
Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement are co-writers, co-directors, and co-stars. Taika was the director of Thor Ragnorok. If you enjoyed Thor at all, then this movie is a must watch. All of the comedic elements of Thor are boosted in What We Do in the Shadows. I have shown this movie to friends and family on multiple occasions and nobody has ever been disappointed by it. The only complaint I hear is that it is too short.
FX has just finished the first season of a television series with new vampires in Staten Island. It is a solid follow up to the movie and I can't wait for season two. Until the second season comes out I will be re-watching the original film several more times and you should too.
